SCP-1499, or "The Gas Mask" is a safe class SCP item in SCP: Unity. It was added in version 0.3.1.

Description[edit | edit source]

SCP-1499 is a Soviet GP-5 gas mask. A seal test performed on the object suggests that the object retains its original functionality. The anomalous effects of SCP-1499 activate when a human places SCP-1499 on their head. Approximately one second after SCP-1499 is fully secured on the subject's head, the subject vanishes from view, and is no longer detectable. The subject reports no feeling of motion at this time. Testing has revealed that two-way radios remain capable of both receiving and transmitting despite the subject being undetectable. Upon wearing SCP-1499, test subjects report completely different surroundings than they were in prior to wearing SCP-1499. Subjects have reported that it appears barren and inhospitable, with tall black towers filling the area. Subjects have also sighted entities in this landscape. These entities, designated SCP-1499-1, have been described as tall, nude humanoids with dark skin that has a thick coat of an unknown viscous substance. Instances of SCP-1499-1 also have large amounts of eyes and mouths covering their body. Upon removing SCP-1499 from their head, subjects reappear in the same location they were in when they put it on.

In-game[edit | edit source]

SCP-1499 is located in its containment chamber in the Light Containment Zone. SCP-1499 will remain in this location until the player picks it up. Upon wearing SCP-1499, the player will be teleported to an alternate dimension with a dark sky, several dark towers, and many instances of SCP-1499-1. Should the player get in the way of any of these instances, be it standing in their path or interrupting them while they are kneeling on the ground, the instance that was disturbed will begin to pursue the player. Any pursuing instances will not cease their chase until the player dies or exits the dimension.

SCP-1499 can be used to make aggressive SCPs break aggro and can cause SCP-106 to despawn.

Currently, SCP-1499 is locked in its containment chamber, and the means to unlock it currently does not exist. An update that will allow the player to unlock SCP-1499, which will at this point have had its mechanics re-balanced, has been announced but the development and number of said update has not.

SCP-1499-1 is a harmful entity in SCP: Containment Breach Unity Edition.

In-game[edit | edit source]

SCP-1499-1 is located within the SCP-1499 dimension. Upon interruption of SCP-1499-1 by either standing in its path or walking towards it while it is kneeling, the interrupted instance will proceed to pursue the player. It will not cease its chase until the player either dies or exits the SCP-1499 dimension.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • As stated above, SCP-1499 is currently not obtainable, but a future update will allow the player to obtain it again (though the process of doing so will be more difficult) as well as re-balance it and improve the dimension itself.
  • In the original SCP: Containment Breach, SCP-1499 was capable of making aggressive SCPs disappear after awhile of wearing it. This feature currently only affects SCP-106, and it is unknown if this will change. However, it is known that this affect will be changed to be less effective, requiring the player to wait several seconds for the aggressive SCPs to disappear rather then them leaving immediately.
  • SCP-1499 was one of the two SCPs in the game prior to update 0.5.5, alongside SCP-173.
